In her debut solo exhibition, “Girly Clutter”, Betsill bridges the gap between the work done in private to construct and deconstruct identities, and the public version of ourselves we chose to share with the world. From gender performance to nostalgia, the objects captured in Betsill’s unconventional still lifes are encoded with layers of meaning that together paint an autobiographical story about girlhood, queerness, and a desire for connection which have been hallmarks of this phase of her life
